Students classified as a dependent via the FAFSA application may request a dependency override in some cases. The FAFSA requires parental information for students who are classified as "dependent". However, students may request an override if they have extraordinary circumstances. The WCC FA office will consider dependency override requests on a case-by-case basis.
Federal regulations do not allow for dependency overrides in the following circumstances:
- Parents refuse to provide information for the FAFSA or verification
- Parents refuse to provide financial support
- Parents did not claim student on tax return
- Student is self-sufficient & does not live with parent
